Left alone with our thoughts can be heartbreaking or empowering. That depends on the content of our mind and our character.
Being an artist has taught me a thing or two about cliches and thoughts. Living by cliches will always cost us in the long and in the short. Just not always in the ways we understand cost. I’m sure most of us have heard the “Follow your heart”, sayings, which I don’t suggest. All cliches have been started by someone influential and was spread by media messages in every generation. Social media just gives us a faster medium to spread what we got.
Cliches can sound downright cool and might even seem great at first. In hindsight, we learn that blindly following the lead of someone else can bring us into a proverbial ditch. Don’t get me wrong, all wisdom has moments where they work. They might even give you some purpose. Eventually though, we are wittled down to the reality of our lives.
Our lives are filled with our thoughts. Our thoughts can be filled with vexation or doubts or media messages, or any number of interactivities. How often do we enjoy the thoughts we have when we’re alone and no one else is around? Life consists of interactions, information and food for most of us. The sources of information have different impacts on us.
These messages can give us an edge in certain situations. But at some point, they don’t always work in the circumstances we find ourselves in. If we follow media messages like follow your heart, we may find ourselves in trouble, because while it may apply to us, it may not apply to the person we have to deal with in the same circumstance it works for us in.
But when we are moved by wisdom, we see life a bit different. We see life as a constant that needs us to adjust. The Bible is a source of information that provides information that is always constant and relevant. The Bible gives us access to the secrets of life because God, the creator who inspired the Bible, set everything in motion.
While a quick word of wisdom may sometimes get us by, the people who read the Bible and believe God have an advantage. The God who created everything helps us and teaches us what His words mean and how live life properly. Those who agree with God’s word also find something that is constantly happening. God’s word is always fulfilling what is written, like it says in Isaiah 55:11. While that may not be a personal, like you or I personal thing, it is true.
Unlike the random wisdom that comes from Cliches, the word of God is constantly at work in life, because God still directs life. What does that look like? I don’t know other than what the Bible says and that is God directs our steps, along with other things. And we also get a new way of thinking when we agree with God.
Cliches and random wisdom comes and goes, leaving us as we are, if even slightly smarter for the experience. God’s word gives us new thoughts. That is because God goes to work in the hearts of the people who believe Him, giving us new ways of thinking. The more we are in agreement with what the Bible says the more we mature in what God says.
Cliches and wisdom are great tools, for sure. A lot of problems have been solved with the wisdom of the world. But a lot of problems have been created by that same wisdom that required us to come up with solutions for the same problems.
Why choose the word of God over conventional wisdom and cliches? The word of God remakes those who believe God. When we agree, the word of God reforms us in the image of Jesus Christ, the son of God. As we are remade, we have the opportunity to mature in the word of God, and so get real wisdom that we can apply over and over in life. And then there is the ultimate secret about cliches and conventional wisdom; As we study the Bible, we may see that the cliché starter for their inspiration from the pages of the Bible.
