Trouble always seem to find good people, I hear. That is at least what I hear. I used to be one of those that trumpeted avoiding trouble as much as possible. While I still believe the latter, trouble is very useful in context. Probably not what you’re thinking. But we all face some sort of problem while we’re alive.
There was a time I did my best to avoid trouble and thought it was best. Those were days I did not do much because I shrunk away. But even those became useful because I was one of the strange folk who spent a lot of time in reflection; that I thank the Lord for the mind that spends time reflecting.
While we’re in trouble, it never feels good and there doesn’t seem to be any good coming out of it. That is because we see the trouble and want it over and done with, so we don’t pay much attention to it. We just look for the quick out or, if the other party/ies is willing to compromise with us so we can all have a good day.
We rarely spend time while in trouble looking for the benefits of facing the storms we must face in our lifetimes. We hear of the older generation of heroes who died for the things they believed in and, because of their sacrifice we have benefited. But what about our troubles today?
Trouble can help us become mentally fit for life and give us wisdom. The Bible was the first place I learned this when I read “those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength”. The troubles we face in life can teach us if we’re willing to change our attitude about what we have to grow through in life. Growing is what happens when we face problems.
Romans 8:28 reveals that “God works all things for the good of those who love him and are called according to His purpose”. Nothing I say takes away from the fact that trouble is a horrible event in life anytime it comes. But believers learn to look for the goodness of God in our problems because He said he would be with us. We know that God is in our midst if we are in trouble or at ease.
We can also learn to use our problems as points of reflection, should we live through them. That may sound a bit morbid until we see the value, not in overthinking, but in evaluating what happened and what was done. We can glean a lot of useful information and lessons from our problems if we are wiling to remove ourselves and look objectively at everything.
God who directs the lives of those who trust in Him for good works out many things. While it may not always seem like it is in our favor, things that benefit the kingdom of heaven greatly benefits everyone, including other believers and may be others as well.
If we spend time learning from problems, rather than complaining and filling our minds with negative things we can be shaped to look for good. When we observe problems currently we can see that good things still happen at what seem to be bad times. A mind that trusts in the word of God, even a little that looks for good will find it. Life may throw us some curve balls until we understand that our reaction to things have a lot to do with how we are affected by things in life.
Most of us have bene programmed to run to the experts first and abandon any thought of action. When we are focused on the word of God, there are many lessons that teach us that we or others are the solution to a lot of problems we face. While it is great to find people who step in for us from time to time, being empowered to act is sometimes the best remedy.
As God reshapes the people who believe Him, He imparts knowledge of many things to us that we sometimes. What that does is empower us to live abundant lives. Abundance is not about money or material things, but a full life full of good from God. The more we seed our minds with the truth, the more adept we become at navigating life and seeing the good in everything.
Trouble can be disruptive to anything we’re doing. We are people. We all go through it and we all have moments where we just can’t. But those who believe God know we have a king who helps us through our moments of weakness and we see the good He does for us when we pay attention and give thanks for it. We can’t do anything to deserve what God does, but He created us and He does these things because He said he would.
Believers in Jesus Christ have this advantage; we can call out to God in our troubles and, in our troubles understand that sometimes the trouble is just there as a lesson. God’s favor, I like to call it. As we face problems from different perspectives of faith rather than fear, our minds and way of thinking changes and matures.
We come to understand the meaning of trouble and various forms of problems we face, whether it is with people or things. With our minds focused on different outlooks we can then mature in faith and live a different reality than we used to experience in problems.
