The Reality of Spiritual Warfare

Did you know spiritual warfare is real? We hear it all the time and maybe don’t understand what spiritual warfare is.

I used to think spiritual warfare was a way for people to talk about their with others. That was before I believed the gospel in full. I understand that spiritual warfare is real and that it affects everyone. People often speak about other people who trigger them as if the people are the problem. There are many layers and it’s like getting a field of lemons. Life gets like that. But it doesn’t have to cripple us.

Many of us are fighting spiritual battles without realizing it. Sure, we all have bad days. But there are days when our surrounding is right but something just feels off. You’re jittery and can’t place the feeling. Spiritual warfare is fought inside all of us from time to time. Truth is, there is a war going on all around us that many live completely unaware of because of the information they live by. That can leave all sorts of openings for suffering or struggle.

The Lord Jesus Christ said; ”come to me all who labor, I will give you rest”. He also said  we, people, are to “believe” in Him. Through the prophet he said, “the battle belongs to the Lord”. When I hear people giving a testimony of their struggles I listen closely now. We all face the same struggles, but when we believe in Jesus we have God to counsel us or help us through our battles.

Believers in Jesus Christ have a new life and a new nature. When we are in a spiritual battle those who believe will pray and allow the Lord to establish us. We come to a knowledge of the struggles that suddenly come on. People doing or saying things that bring us into mood swings. Things we’re thinking about weighing us down. Our weaknesses show up when we’re trying to get things done. Spiritual warfare takes on many facades.

Our struggles can make us feel hopeless sometimes. But believing in Jesus we understand we have a hope. A counselor and rescue when needed. Even when our hearts make us feel forlorn, we know we’re not abandoned or hopeless. Our connection to Jesus helps us to pray in earnestness, believing that the Lord will help us. As disciples of Christ we learn over time that the Lord come through when we need him the most. We all forget sometimes and do struggle some real struggling though.

Imagine the things in our minds telling us that we’re not good enough? What about how low we are? One of my favorites was how worthless we are. The spiritual struggle of a believer gives us endless ammunition in the word of God. God calls us his righteous people, his own special possession and tells us he makes us holy. When the things in our minds bring our esteem down we are able to rest in Jesus. We give him our labors and the Lord kindly reminds us often of the world we will live in soon. No evil, these thoughts will be replace with thoughts of joy and love.

Spiritual warfare doesn’t have to cripple us for days on end. The Lord gives a powerful spirit to those who believe in Jesus. Yes we do struggle heavily, at times. Bu the faith of those who believe reminds us that we will learn and grow from our struggles. Days when we lose to our struggles brings a new mindset. Boots laced and ready for the next.

Spiritual warfare is not always about other people against us. It affects every human being on earth, whether they believe it or not. A lot of times spiritual warfare comes on because of our wants and the things we’re doing. Tends to have people reacting to us in ways we do not like so we blame them.

The best weapons for spiritual warfare are humility, faith, courage, and the knowledge of God. When we believe the word of God we don’t worry about people. We think about the Lord and allow his word to clean our spirits or give us counsel as we need it. God is faithful and just in everything so we know we can trust him and lean on him because we will never get bad directions- when we’re in the wrong the Lord will correct us.

Spiritual warfare is real. It can break the best of us and turn us into mean sods. But the people who understand the truth also know that spiritual warfare is a great indicator and builder of character. What do you think? When was the last time you faced a spiritual battle and how did it turn out for you?
