Our past has a way of trying to hang around, stirring echoes of yesterday. The more open our eyes and ears are to life, the more echoes we hear in the background trying to come back to the front. Most of us deal with them as memories, past events we live over and over involuntarily as it attempts to invade our present lives. These echoes manifest as trauma, guilt, bad memories, and any number of deceit. Deceit, because an echo belongs is not today.
Life has a lot of recorded memories from people and events. Most of the times we don’t know what to do with them. So we carry them as any number of maladies that have been named and recorded happening again and again. These echoes have formed industries in mental health because everyone wants a quick fix. Granted, there are real mental health challenges that we live through.
The echo is something quite different but has dwarfed the efforts of those it affects, which is almost everyone on earth; past, present and future. This will be an echo for some as they attempt to understand what this writing means or if it is belittling to their experiences of their lives.
You see, an echo is the resonation of something that hurt, because we refuse to give it up and move on. It can resonate because of someone we thought we loved, pain, trauma, or even missing the ice cream truck; no lie. Echoes are irrelevant pieces of life that we allow to linger far too long. We, being people.
For those in the kingdom who have echoes swirling daily, God has testified that He cares for us and that we can cast all of our concerns on Him. We are even told that we should put all we are doing before the Lord and our thoughts will be established. And when we think about an echo (a thought) on repeat, we don’t need to wonder why.
Those who believe in the Lord ought to learn the important lesson; some things require God. Whie the world, at large doesn’t have this benefit in life because they do not believe in God, we can ask the Lord to help us with our echoes. Echoes dim the light we have to shine in this life. This is especially true when we attempt to deal with everything on our own.
This message is for those who are struggling with a mental or emotional or even a spiritual echo. Let the Lord help you with it because that is why He did what He did at Golgotha on the cross. Jesus Christ came to relieve us of sin, as well as the effects of sin. Echoes are of that sort and when we allow them to linger we are not as effective at life as we can be.
I assume echoes will always exist as long as people are in the world. But they don’t have to dim our light or stop us from living the life we’ve been given to live. My hope for the ones who read this is, they cry out to the Lord, help me with (name your echo). Because the Lord is waiting to deliver His children from all that ails us. Think on your echo and think about what life would be like if when it came, it only reminded you of what happened and how the Lord helped you live in spite of it.
