Although a righteous man may fall seven (7) times, they rise again.
We all come up short in life sometimes. That fall from a perch where we thought life was sweet can be pretty harsh. But it happens to the best of us. There are some who have never tasted a real win, because their lives seem to go from losing to losing. And it is not like we run into problems and then get right. Problems in life are like an addiction we can’t seem to get by and that is the reality of life; problems always seem to find us.
The troubles we face in life can leave a deep impression on the best of us. Depending on the severity of the problems many of us fall into various levels of depression; sometimes all at once. We all face those dark periods here and there, whether it’s for hours or years. We all face those periods where it feels like life is trying to crush us.
For some, recovery can take on the form of medicine or therapy. It is just life. Some of us can get up and be fine after a quick nap while others may take a long time and a lot of support, even for the simplest things. Doesn’t make us any worse than the person who took and nap and woke up ready to go.
But those who truly trust in God find new strength during the recovery. We see this promise in Isaiah 40:31. The Bible gives us many promises God has made for those who turn back to Him and believe His testimony. They are true. While we can use any means to recover from mental health challenges or stresses or dangers, the word of God trumps everything.
What is the advantage? God. We only need to believe. We don’t have to prove anything as long as we believe God. That is the wonder of God’s promise when we believe in Him and recover from the many issues we face in life. We have this great advantage and testimony we can share with anyone willing to believe, about what the Lord did for us. Should they believe, they will benefit greatly.
I can recall what going through issues were like before I had a relationship with the Lord. I would regurgitate what happened again and again, swirling the problem in mind until it wore me out. Many things made me anxious in that process, but I loved and still love to sit and reflect on just about everything.
But As I believed in God and learn to live in all His word, the way I reflect and resolve the problems I face in life is a little different; I’ve come to realize I don’t need to overthink things anymore. No problem if I do, but it is better for me to pray and let them go because God said He would direct my steps and work things out for our good.
Believing God emboldens us, not to ignore problems, but to face them truthfully and in the measure of faith God gives us. As we study the holy scriptures and learn the truth of what God says, we can apply those words to life. God is at work reconstructing the content of the heart of those who believe (John 15:1). As we pursue God’s word when we make choices and learn to truth the Lord, our thoughts of life changes. Peace from God settles in as we face problems and over time we grow more and more confident in God’s power to get us through the problems we face.
When we hit a dark spot, the Lord uses those to refine us. Those willing to trust in God find new strength with each problems we face and each recovery period we go through. To be honest, I almost never go through something without learning important specifics of life. I am almost gleeful these days when I go through something, like a man running toward the battle line shouting BATTLE.
The road to recovery for a believer in Jesus Christ will always look different and peculiar from the outside. Even for us, when we see other believers striving through their struggle and complaining, and their recovery – we can say we know that the Lord is working a great delivery for that person.
Why so rosy when, not everyone has great results? Because the measure of someone’s faith will give them access and they will receive what they believe. There are various measures of faith. It is like levels. Doesn’t mean we get more or less from God. We get what we ask for; and we claim what we believe.
The “real world” is a crazy place that doesn’t need sanity. We see societies operating in the culture they have marketed to their citizens. But those who believe God come into the kingdom of heaven through Yeshuah Messiah (Jesus Christ). In the kingdom of heaven the basics are a bit different and problems don’t have the same measure of power as they do in society because of the things that God has said.
Is it worth believing in God just because of the ability of believers to recover? My answer is that it is worth believing in God because of the benefits we get from knowing who God is and believing that there is a God who created. This is the way God made the world and all of His creation. The words He spoke from the beginning weave His truth into the foundation of everything. How do I know this? It is written – Psalm 19:1.
