The Importance of Prayer

Jesus prayed for all believers in every age.

Prayer is a powerful gift from God. When we pray the Lord listens to us, because prayer is one way we communicate with God about our needs. But did you know that Jesus also offered up a powerful prayer on our behalf before he went back to the Father? Found in the book of John, Jesus went to town on the behalf of his disciples and those who would believe in him through the gospel they would be bringing to the whole world. When you don’t know what to pray, thank the Lord for what he’s done for you already; forgave your sins, gave you eternal life, gave you power over sins, evil spirits and demons, listens to you every time you pray, and prayed for us all in Jesus long before we knew we needed prayer. Let’s look at some of the power words Jesus prayed on our behalf.

In the book of John chapter 17 verses 6 to 26, Jesus, saddened that he would be leaving the world prayed for his disciples and all believers (you too). In verse 9 Jesus prays for “those whom God has given him”; still yet in verse 11 is the most exciting part of the prayer when Jesus prays, “Holy Father, protect them by the power your name, the name you gave me.” In verse 20 Jesus makes known whom he is praying for by adding “I pray also for those who WILL believe through their message, that all may be one, Father, just as you and I are one. May they also be in us so that the world may believe you sent me.” Jesus’ powerful prayer for us, is generational – until the last day of this earth. Pray in faith and stay in faith while waiting for what you prayed for, because in Jesus we have everything we need, including a powerful prayer on all our behalf.

How to Pray

Jesus even showed us how to pray in Matthew chapter 6 verses 5-15 & 33. Simple prayer because He says God already knows what we need. But a powerful act of faith Jesus advises is verse 33 of Matthew 6 is to “seek first the Kingdom of God”. So when you pray, remember that you are not praying alone; not even from the first day you start praying to God. When we pray to God we are praying in Jesus, so you are never truly alone in prayer. You stand in the Lord Jesus Christ, praying before God each time you pray – to the glory of the living God. And that marvelous in our eyes.

And if Jesus’ powerful prayer wasn’t enough. He returned to God after resurrecting from the grave to sit at the Right Hand of God, and to intercede for us when we pray. Isn’t that a delight to now how much God loves you and wants you to succeed in the life that He gives you through Jesus? Pray in faith and pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, in the mighty name of Jesus.

Prayer

Thank you Lord for the powerful prayer of Jesus Christ on our behalf, for your gift of life and for my salvation, which you have already paid for and given me before I knew I needed it. I glory in the name of your son Jesus even while I wait for you, Lord. I thank you for the very breath I am using to thank you now in prayer, in Jesus’ name, I pray that you will renew my heart so I can understand how great your love for me is and strengthen my faith in your word, according to your righteous will. Amen.
