That’s just who I am! It is a phrase that has defined humanity for a long time. I’m old enough to know that but too young to know who started it. Many of us represent who we used to be to the full. This produces a cycle of who we think we are. It takes time to really understand that we change as long as we’re willing. We do have the option of remaining as we are.
Over the last couple of years, I have personally been on a journey of change. Some people might call it growing up. The changes helped me put away so much of who I used to be that I don’t recognize who I am sometimes. It can be when dealing with people or being alone. I don’t want the same things or respect the same things anymore.
During that time I have had a lot of time to think about what I used to do. I mean, life gives us a lot of opportunities to fall backwards anyway. But, God has a way of reminding us of where we are today.
Change is a good thing. It can be scary sometimes because of our comfort with the lives we’ve built. When the Lord is involved with in our lives we have power to change in all our circumstances. If I could have chosen, I would have chosen an easy life. In fact, if I knew what I was going to go through in life and the choices I have made; I would probably say no to being born.
But that would have robbed me of living as the man God has made me today. No I cannot tell you that the changes I’ve been through made me perfect, according to what we think is perfect as a people. I can tell you that allowing the Lord to prune your mind and remaking you, and giving yourself over to those changes produces excellent things.
“God works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose”. That is a true statement you can find in Philippians 2:13. It is a great agent for change when we submit our minds to studying the word of God and considering its applications as we live our lives.
A mind that wishes to change and look into the word of God receives power to change from the inside out. That is where God is at work, in our hearts. The interesting thing about this is, we believe and live our lives and study the Bible and recognize ourselves changing, if we pay attention.
There is a certain grace to maturity; but in Christ, and believing the word of God we mature in different ways. Our vision for living becomes clearer as we live and learn what the word of God truly says. When our hearts are tuned into the truth and we want to live in the truth, Those things become real to us.
When we give in to that type of change, things we carry from years of lifing becomes power. One day we’re triggered by small things in life, the next minute we are living around those same things boldly. Attuned to God, we live a life that is focused on the kingdom of God and learning about it.
Now if we truly apply ourselves to the study of the kingdom of God we will find the truth. We can come to an understanding of the power God has given us in Jesus Christ, to change our hearts and minds to people who are fit for the kingdom of heaven. Most of that is time, endurance and patience. God works out the details of our lives as we turn ourselves over more and more.
Change is an important part of life for those who find the truth in life. We no longer want to be the same. We live our lives surrounded by people of all backgrounds and lifestyles, but we want a life free from some of the things that made us hard and callous. When we believe in Jesus Christ, we gain power through God’s Spirit to overcome our roadblocks.
Those who embrace the truth find that God places all His power to change us, inside us. As we live the new life applying the word of God to our living, we change. Time spent living out the word of God will change even our thought process and the way we look at things.
Embracing the power to change in the Truth allows us to shed our past. Those things that tend to haunt us; whether we were the ones that did them or the ones they were done against. We don’t forget everything, but we are certainly empowered in our new way of living to live according to what God places in us.
And then there is the certainty of our new identity in Jesus Christ. That is something for another day. But I hope you enjoyed this article.
