Perseverance

It is done.

Jesus was quoted saying these words just before He died on the cross. He had been beaten and hung on that cross. He had persevered through what His own people had done to Him in error. He had defeated sin and was about to defeat death, and so finish the work God, His Father had sent him to do. Die in place of us who would believe.

In life, we too have to learn to persevere. And there are times I feel like quitting. Like most people I go through the paces of life. But each time the thought of quitting hits me, I go back to what Jesus did so I could live this life. I believe in Jesus and know I’m forgiven because the Bible testifies to that. The words of the Bible gives me great insight into many things in life.

When life gets rough, I have become accustomed to holding on while keeping the word of God front and center in mind. There are days I don’t even feel like getting out of bed. Those are the days I do my best to remember that Jesus said those words, “It is finished”. He also said He came so we could live an abundant life if we believe.

The days that feel hopeless we can be reminded that Jesus persevered under duress we could not even fathom, yet he came out of the grave even after being killed. When I sit down to read and study the Bible each day I get the chance to, it is because of that reason. Over the past ten years I have learned that the more I study and trust in and practice doing what those words in the Bible says, the more they are with me in trouble.

Of course there are days I feel completely helpless. Like God isn’t near me. Those are the days that press and feel like they’re going to drown me in sorrow. But God is faithful in every word He’s spoken, so when I come back to my senses I remember that I only need to hold on because God never leaves me alone.

Now, when I am encouraged and come through that cycle of whatever, joy fills my heart and I can smile again. That is because God sends constant reminders that we sometimes miss when we are in those down moments. But when we see them, we are reminded and shown what we missed because the Lord blesses our hearts to be full of joy.

Either way following Jesus Christ is a great opportunity we’ve been given.

I have heard people arguing that such and such happens to them. That such things happen to their families. That God let’s things happen. But after coming out of erroneous days I now realize that God made a way for me to be healed and come alive in the new heavens and the new earth, after this current life and earth is over.

In that life there will be no death, no need for tears, no sickness, no poverty. Just life the way it was meant to be lived without sin and wickedness.

If you want to know more about what it means to believe in Jesus Christ and what this kingdom of God, I keep writing about is; let’s talk freely. It doesn’t matter about your background or current situation as long as you’re willing to learn we can talk.
