Knowledge & Our Reality

I keep thinking about my former struggles with life. When I think back, I can remember some ugly days, like most people. The anxious days. A lot of us have days when it’s hard to breathe. That is part of life. The stress of those times can make us feel like we’re sick or totally drained; I mean, like, chest-pounding sort of sick.

During those times, just thinking about doing anything might give us a headache. We want to sit down and find the best distraction, usually TV or the internet, or friends and friend things. Sometimes, those feelings do win. But do they have to?

No! Having the right information teaches us that our bodies belong to us. We can, to some extent, control our reaction to feelings. God created these bodies to host our souls and spirits. Feelings come and go, but we are stuck with these bodies and what we allow to happen to them. We can give up control to our feelings, or we can decide to keep control.

Our bodies, even under duress, can produce different functions based on our thoughts. But we grow up in a society that teaches us to bemoan our feelings; mostly sit and sulk when we don’t feel too good, or go nuts when we feel great. Many people today live based on how we feel, when we should be able to choose how we live, despite how we feel.

Struggles can shape our reality for better or worse. If we are willing to examine ourselves with a sober mind during hard times and make honest assessments, we can make different choices. We might even reshape some things about our lives.

The Bible, for instance, tells us many great things about our reality and what the Lord said about people who believe; something to ask about. The information in the Bible also gives us a window into the rules of life. When we are armed with the truth, things aren’t as intimidating as they may seem.

People who explore knowledge with a mind open to the truth, rather than accept everything at face value, are given insight. Some who look into the truth learn what it means to belong to God. We can change our minds and many things about our lives by having the truth. We are influenced by information, but not every bit of information is helpful to us.

Take, for instance, the inventions of the car, houses, and cities; As we have gained knowledge, we have traded knowledge for convenience; irony at its best. That convenience came with information on what to do in the event of XYZ, and we use that well. But, considering life – we don’t use our brains well.

When we learn to use our brains efficiently, taking information and giving it definition by what we observe, we can control how we learn. By following the truth, we can reshape our reality, because we are no longer agreeing with everything we see and hear.

The day we start asking questions about our struggles, and being honest, is the day we can begin to break free. Everything we need has been prepared for us when we were created, but we are the ones who must look for and accept truth and knowledge. Truth, when found and used correctly, can light fires in us that burn a light into the world around us.
