Effective Problem Solving: Taking Action

Taking Action

Be content with what you have.

That is the word of God through the Apostles. Everything we do, in this life requires action. Whether that action is praying, trusting in the Lord’s word for a resolution, or acting; being content is one of the best forms of action for anyone. That does not mean that we sit still and do nothing when action is needed. Instead, being careful not to have unrealistic expectations of anyone else involved in whatever plan to do.

One of the most confusing circumstances in life is being in a position where we need to do something, but what that is, is unclear. There can be tons of clutter or people between us and that something. Problems always come with murky circumstances that can make us feel overwhelmed.

But we don’t have to let feelings rule us. When our minds are set on finding solutions rather than being obsessed with problems, we can begin to see things differently. If we examine life carefully, we will see that there are several parts to every circumstance of life.

One of those parts is the solution. I mean, we all know what problems look like, that is all we’ve been conditioned to see. But when we are determined to look beyond our problems, our minds can rest on solutions. Most of the time we get stuck on problems.

But the solutions are there. If we can begin to envision solutions we can also see steps we need to take to make the solution useful. There is some good lessons we can learn when we’re having challenges in life. There are gurus selling secrets to solving problems out there and they’re making a killing.

But, when we are content with what we have we learn an important lesson about solutions: A solution is only effective to people willing to act on it. When we have patiently reviewed and thought through a problem, the time comes when we should act.

What that means for some of us is praying and having faith. People who make a habit of praying come to see the faithfulness of God to His word as it applies to our lives. God’s word benefits us in that He provides many solutions for us so we don’t get as bothered about life’s issues as we did before we came to believe in God; we are in God’s hands and so are the solutions we’re looking for.

Proverbs 16:3 tells us, “Submit your works to God and let your thoughts be established”. Most who hear this will think this is only for religious folks. But salvation is for the people who don’t know God yet. Jesus spoke about God’s mercy toward those who don’t believe in Him and even evil people. Matthew 5:45 Jesus tells the people He was speaking to that “God makes the sun, shine on the evil and the good and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous”.

That means you can talk to God too, if you don’t believe yet. Jesus was sent so that we can get to know God. We only need to believe and search the Bible.

With our thoughts established, we can confidently act to solve our problems. When our minds have seen and thought about solutions, we can have confidence that things will work if we work toward what we saw. Our emotions and actions, over time, become refined for dealing with problems and learning from each situation we face.

Being rigid or greedy can cost you if you allow emotions to cloud your judgment. Having our thoughts grounded in the truth, gives us a firm foundation when we have to solve any problem. Having a foundation allows us to handle doubts and anxiety. We can also act with clear conscience knowing we don’t have ulterior motives.

Having a mind free from unnecessary emotion or desire can mean the difference between failure and success. People who know the solution they aim for, know they don’t have to settle for anything less than the outcomes they thought about.

When we have a clear mind we can take action on what we believe is right. When we act with clear conscience because we don’t have ulterior motives, we can accept the result of our action. Does not mean it will always turn out ‘good’ according to societal standards. It means we worked with a vision. And someone will always be offended, so the results we get may not be suitable for everyone.

Most problems we face require patience, consideration, and action. When we can focus on the solution instead of the problem things work out right. Those of us who have the desire to turn to God find better results, win or lose, because we know whose hands we’re in.

Next time you face a problem think about the lesson or opportunity that problem could be bringing you, if you can focus on the solution and then take time to think it over.
