Becoming Through the Pain

When does life begin? We might all have an opinion, because ‘life’ doesn’t always carry the same meaning. A man was once told he had to be born again. He was confused because the thought of being born again at an old age just wasn’t possible. Then he was told what it meant to be born again, which led to a topic about life.

Today we’d say we’re already alive. Life on planet earth has been defined for every possible scenario. But life looks more like trying to survive than living. A lot of us live that kind of life now. Just scraping by, just enough energy to get xyz done. Just enough time to make it to the event for the kids.

All the responsibilities of life can drain us of what we were meant to be. As I scroll through social media sometimes, I see adults adulting. Some stories tell about robbed futures because circumstances didn’t allow for the activities that would have allowed the person to explore certain opportunities. Then there are the hardships we’ve had to endure just to live.

Life is full of hardship stories.

The Elder who was told he had to be born again asked many questions and with good reason. He’d never heard of such a thing. Being born again after he’d already been born and living a life, that, at the time was considered the upper echelon of that society.

What about us? Have we been born and are we alive? Hardships can hit our aspirations hard. Knock the wind out of us. But we don’t have to give up the life we dreamed about. I’m not about chasing dreams, but about having conviction and courage to face life head on in faith, knowing that the Lord will work out the details.

When we stay the course through rough weather, we find the storms of life do give way after we wear them out. Keep our vision ahead of us because we serve a God who not only sees our struggle but loves to reward faith. Those who have turned away from the hopeless life understand that the life we now live isn’t like the life we gave up.

When life gets hard, through prayer and persistence we can become that which we had in mind to become. Scripture testifies that God gives the people who believe Him the desires of their hearts, Psalm 37:4. That is a reality that transcends the problems we face in life and even our own feelings.

Leaving the hopeless life behind isn’t enough. We must learn to live through the hardships and circumstances we find ourselves surrounded by sometimes. Those hardships are at times only the lessons and gateway we’ll need when we have accomplished what we set out to accomplish. For those who understand, God gives us what we set out to find and helps us be prepared to mature into that achievement.

When life knocks us down and we pray and set out hearts on those things we want, Jesus said we would receive because we asked. I know there is a school of thought that adds the speculation that it is in God’s will. It is God’s will for us to live by faith and trust Him to do the things He says He would do.

We become the people we are meant to becomes because God is doing the work. We occupy spaces in life so we can get the opportunity to share what God has done for us and about the kingdom He has brought us into, so that we can become through pain and uncertainty because we are people of faith and hope and love.
