According to the word Moses spoke to the Israelites in Deuteronomy, life and goodness, or death evil are our choices in life. We are born free to choose life or death, in the form of Jesus or our own way. In the Ecclesiastes, King Solomon laments the fact that “what has been done will be done again, there is nothing new under the sun” But God, in His wisdom foresaw the generations and prepared the Lamb for His name’s sake. In him, Jesus, we are free from sin, and in our own way we choose the world and the vices prepared by Satan, which is sin.
It is good to remember that the Lord said, “the truth will set you free”, it is better to remember that he also said “I am the truth”. King Solomon’s lament in Ecclesiastes 1:9 “there is nothing new under the sun”, gives a foreboding feeling that these choices have always been. God set us free from our choices by redeeming us in the body of Jesus, His Son. He gives us freedom from sin and a choice to make; from Christ a reminder that “only they who do the will of my father will be saved”. Everything that has been done will be done again, there is truly nothing new under the sun. And so we understand that our choice does not end at baptism, it is every day and everything until we are laid to rest.
While the cliché of free will is a great comfort, searching out the knowledge of God is better. 2nd Corinthians tells us that God gives us comfort in 1 verse 7. Moses, in the Spirit, told the truth in Deuteronomy 30 verse 15 “I have set before you today, life and goodness, as well as death and evil”. Everything that has been done will be done again, there is truly nothing new under the sun. For this reason, when I meet people who talk a lot it gives me pause and my hearing opens wide so that I can understand how they use their freedom as told in Proverbs 4:23 “guard your heart”.
So what does that all say? When we observe and study life, we understand the reality behind it. To be free from sin, evil and death we must choose Jesus Christ, after all, every choice we make in life boils down to two basic choices: Who do you listen to? Consider it.
Knowledge, and access to knowledge has increased without end, and yet we are doing the same things. No matter how educated one becomes, we are drawn to the same things; for instance, with all the advancement we still see hunger, suffering, and cruelty in all its forms. My advice is to choose Jesus Christ who sets us free from sin, choose the life and goodness of God. In Christ is freedom from sin and condemnation.
Lord we thank you for your Salvation. We thank you for freeing us from sin. In Jesus name.
