An Everlasting Love

If you accept and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2 begins with a truth that needs telling, a greater understanding than we can imagine until we undertake the journey into the Lord Almighty, our Eternal Father and Immanuel. And in Proverbs King Solomon summed it up in saying “To fear the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, to shun evil is to understand”.

Jesus completes the Proverb by saying “those who do the will of my Father.” – And according to Song of Songs 12: 13-14 “here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His Commandments, for this is the whole duty of man”.

When our Prophet came and died and rose from the grave, He showed us that even in our darkest hour we see how much God loves us. His faithful companionship loves us so much that in the midst of pain he remembered “I am thirsty”, leaving nothing undone from the testimony of the prophets who spoke of him. And shamelessly, He comes to us and calls us children, calls us to come to Him to take his easy yoke and light burden and lay down our needless toilings, because in our troubles we tend to see the enemy. But in Christ we see the love of God with us in every moment of our struggle and only need to accept Him and turn to Him.

In fact, the greatest thing a man can do is turn to God and his knowledge, searching Him out while we are under the pressure of trials while he can be found; there is a difference in our come-up, a difference when we come through. When we see how unabashed God comes to us, we ourselves lose the shame in acknowledging and learning from Him, putting ourselves aside to take up true knowledge. Fulfilling the word of John when he testified that “I must decrease so He can increase”.

In these things is the understanding of the Everlasting Love God pours out on us as we struggle in life hoping we will feel his presence and call out to him. There are many times God testifies through Isaiah, Jeremiah and the prophets before Jesus that “If Israel would turn from their ways and seek the Lord their God”, he would heal them. It is an eternal promise given to the generations through Jesus Christ. Our struggle is the might of God, because through us He is willing to reveal himself. Jesus told Paul plainly in his own struggles that “my grace is sufficient”. And what grace it is when we finally cry out God help me through this.

Elijah knew how much God loved when he realized his own limitations and ran from Jezebel. “Wake up and eat”, the angel said to him two times. After Elijah had eaten he traveled in the presence of God to the mountain of God to seek the face of God. God delivered Elijah but made preparations to keep his faithful word to Abraham. But he would chasten them by the hands of Elisha, Jehu, and Hazael, yet he would keep those who turned to him in their time of trial.

Through Jesus we have the full expression of God’s everlasting love, walking in the presence of angels in the midst of trouble. Our darkest hour is lit by the Lord who calls to us day and night to seek Him. To come into His presence. Not one word is lost when we turn to him to seek him out, because he will be found when we fully turn to him like we do in life, for the love of money and accolades. No shame in His approach to us and not one word left out. Faithful is his name in our trouble. Sufficient is his power in our struggles. When the love of the Lord touches us, all we have to do is believe Jesus and confess with our own lips that He is Lord and savior. But that love, the way God loves, his patience compels us to do the will of His Father and and to give a testimony to anyone willing to listen because we know that God deserves those who will listen to Him, Even one.

The love we find when we seek the everlasting love of God is unabashed and overwhelming. In our hearts Jesus teaches us the true meaning of fear, the true meaning of humility before the Lord. In his lessons we see the true meaning of God’s eternal love that He has loved us with. Love that is as addictive as it is unreasonably good. A love that spawns praises and thanksgiving when we struggle because we realize that God is doing even more in our hearts to prepare us for what we will eventually do, whether we choose to rest in the presence of Jesus or give our testimony of his good works.

The conclusion is that when we go through trouble and acknowledge the Lord and call to Him for help, we find a life that is beyond our wildest imagination. In this life we find the everlasting love of God walking through the fires of Babylon with the three young men, letting Daniel know he can sleep in peace in the den of the Lion, saying to us, just trust me, I’m making you beautiful. When we are willing to turn to Jesus in our troubles, we find on the other side – a chance to find a pure heart and love like nothing we have ever imagined on the other side, and understanding of everything we’ve been through. And, from our Eternal Father, Jesus our holy and Anointed Lord who treats us like brothers and sisters He has loved with an everlasting love.
